The group gained initial attention when their pre-debut music video received viral attention, a result of their raw talent and the curiosity surrounding the new Starship group. 

After launch, the group's fame skyrocketed in the following years with a series of successful summer releases that earned them the nickname "Queens of Summer".

Sistar was highly regarded for their vocal abilities and consistency, with Hyolyn and Soyou praised as the best vocalists of their generation. Their healthy and confident image also set them apart from many other girl groups at the time. Soyou also became popular by her multiple collaborations and Fashion image, which awarded her a 2014 Style Icon Award.
