Yujin gained public recognition before IVE's debut as a contestant on the reality survival show Produce 48 in 2018, finising in fifth and securing a spot on the temporary girl group IZ*ONE.

After IZ*ONE disbanded, she moved returned to Starship (her original company before being recruited on Produce 48) and was chosen to be the leader of new group IVE.
