> **T-ara** (티아라) was a South Korean Girl Group that debuted in 2009.  They retired in 2018 with a 4 artist final line-up and held an Anniversary event in 2021.

Prior to their official inception, T-ara underwent extensive preparation under Mnet Media, where the original project lineup trained together for nearly three years. Before making their debut, two initial trainees, Jiae and Jiwon, withdrew due to creative differences, prompting a swift re-formation. The company recruited new members to complete the group, including Boram, Qri, and Soyeon. Soyeon was previously an SM Entertainment trainee who had trained to be a vocal and Leader candidate for Girls' Generation, while Boram came from a prominent musical family and Qri was an established ulzzang (someone who achieves online fame for having an exceptionally attractive face). Shortly before their introduction to the public, management transferred the group to Core Contents Media, a subsidiary of Mnet Media later known as MBK Entertainment.

In mid-2012, T-ara became the subject of one of the most publicized controversies in Korean music history following the sudden termination of member Hwayoung's contract. Public speculation arose after social media posts about professionalism by members Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Boram coincided with Hwayoung performing seated at a concert due to an injury. Netizens widely accused the core members of internal bullying, leading to severe public backlash, widespread boycotts, and a major interruption to the group's momentum. In 2017, the narrative surrounding the incident shifted significantly when former staff members released internal communications revealing that Hwayoung and her twin sister Hyoyoung had sent threatening messages to member Ahreum, partially clearing the group's reputation in the public eye.

At the end of 2017, the remaining members Qri, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Jiyeon parted ways with MBK Entertainment upon contract expiration. The agency subsequently attempted to trademark the name "T-ara" to prevent the members from using it independently. The members challenged the filing in court and successfully secured full rights to their original group name, allowing them to reunite for independent projects.
