Born on March 24, 1984, in Seoul, South Korea, Park Bom (often referred simply as Bom) moved to the United States during her middle school years. She attended high school in Maine and later studied at Lesley University, majoring in psychology. However, her passion for music led her to pursue a career in singing (leading her to drop from Lesley before graduating), despite initial disapproval from her parents. She reportedly transferred to Berklee College of Music to study music.

Bom joined YG Entertainment in 2005 after multiple auditions, training for several years. She had various pre-debut features, including collaborations with Big Bang on tracks like "We Belong Together" and "Forever with U," and with Lexy on "Baby Boy." Her distinct vocal color was already gaining attention.

She officially debuted as a main vocalist of 2NE1 in May 2009. Within the group, Bom was known for her powerful and unique vocal tone, which became a signature part of 2NE1's sound.

During an 2NE1's hiatus, Bom faced a personal controversy in 2014 related to a past drug prescription from the U.S. that was deemed illegal in South Korea. This event led to a significant period of inactivity and public scrutiny.

After 2NE1's official disbandment in 2016 and her departure from YG Entertainment in 2017, Bom embarked on a solo career. She signed with D-Nation Entertainment and made her highly anticipated solo comeback in 2019 with the single "Spring." She also participated in the Mnet reality show "Queendom" in 2019, showcasing her vocal abilities and reconnecting with fans.
