He originally auditioned for Pledis as a vocalist but was encouraged to switch to rapping due to his deep voice, leading to a four-year training period. During his pre-debut years, he appeared in music videos for labelmates like NU'EST and Hello Venus and was a constant presence in the Melona Room. He debuted as a lead rapper within the Hip-hop unit, becoming a key contributor to the group's lyrical composition.
