Minzy (공민지) is a South Korean Female Soloist and Idol who debuted solo in 2017. She started in group 2NE1.
She was born on January 18, 1994, in Seoul, and is notably the granddaughter of renowned folk dancer Gong Okjin. Minzy began her dance training at a very young age, participating in numerous dance contests and competitions, and was discovered by YG Entertainment through a viral online video showcasing her dancing skills. She joined the agency as a trainee in 2005.
After five years of training, Minzy officially debuted as the youngest member, main dancer, and vocalist of the girl group 2NE1 in May 2009. Within 2NE1, she was celebrated for her powerful dance skills and strong vocal abilities, which were crucial to the group's dynamic performances and distinctive sound.
In April 2016, Minzy officially departed from 2NE1 and YG Entertainment, seeking to pursue her own musical path after the group's extended hiatus. She made her solo debut in April 2017 with her first mini-album, "Minzy Work 01: Uno." Her solo career allowed her to explore diverse musical genres and showcase more of her vocal potential. In 2020, she established her own agency, MZ Entertainment, continuing to release music as an independent artist.
