한 BTS
BTS (방탄소년단) is a South Korean Boy Group that debuted in 2013. They consist of 7 members: RM, Agust D, J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook and V.
They hold the most Music Show Awards among all artists in Korea. They are the 2nd most streamed artist in Korea.
The seven-member boy group under the then-small Big Hit Entertainment. Their early career was characterized by a distinct focus on hardcore hip-hop and lyrical content that tackled heavy themes of societal pressure, school issues, and teenage dreams. This was a marked departure from the typical bubblegum pop concepts prevalent in K-pop at the time. Their early discography, often called the "School Trilogy", included albums like O!RUL8,2? and Skool Luv Affair, through which they established themselves as the "bulletproof boys" fighting for the youth. Crucially, the members, particularly the rap line (RM, Suga, and J-Hope), were heavily involved in the writing and production of their music from the start, setting the foundation for their identity as self-producing artists.
Their early projects were known for having lyrics that were almost entirely in Korean, focusing on complex social commentary rather than incorporating frequent English phrases. This decision reinforced their authenticity and resonated deeply with their domestic and, later, international fanbase who appreciated the genuine, unmediated expression.
BTS's would eventually rise to international success with a creative shift during their "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" phase (2015-2016). This series, which included hits like "I Need U" and "Dope", broadened their musical scope beyond hardcore hip-hop to incorporate more complex pop, R&B, and EDM sounds, while still maintaining introspective lyrical themes of youth, anxiety, and growth.
Their international momentum was significantly amplified by their strategic and consistent use of social media, something then rare to most Korean acts, which allowed them to bypass traditional media and connect directly with fans globally, fostering an exceptionally dedicated fanbase.
The group achieved a major breakthrough in the U.S. when they won the Top Social Artist Award at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) in 2017, marking their first significant American award. This win cemented their status as a global phenomenon, leading to high-profile American television appearances and successful U.S. tours. They solidified their global recognition by becoming the first K-pop act to present and perform at the American Music Awards (AMAs) that same year.
In 2022, after years of discussions and preparation, the group entered a planned group hiatus so all members could serve their mandatory military service, with members that were earlier or later in service releasing solo works. They finished service in 2025 and are expected to return in 2026.
