한 BIGBANG

BIGBANG (빅뱅) was a South Korean Boy Group that debuted in 2006. They retired in 2023 with a 4 artist final line-up.

They hold the 7th most Music Show Awards among all artists in Korea. They are the 14th most streamed artist in Korea.

BIGBANG was formed under "YG Entertainment" after an intensive preparation process documented through the reality program "BIGBANG Documentary". Out of the six original trainees competing for a spot, Hyunseung (who later debuted in BEAST/Highlight) was eliminated in the final evaluation. Before their formation, G-Dragon and Taeyang had spent six years as trainees under the agency, initially preparing to debut as a hip-hop duo named "GDYB", while T.O.P was an established underground rapper known as "Tempo", recruited into the company through G-Dragon's recommendation.

Throughout their career, the group was involved in high-profile legal controversies and public scandals. In 2011, Daesung was involved in a traffic accident involving a deceased motorcyclist, though he was cleared of all charges after investigation revealed the motorcyclist was already dead having hit a lamp before Daesung hit him. That same year, G-Dragon tested positive for marijuana in Japan, though charges were dropped due to low concentration levels and his status as a first-time offender. In 2017, while serving his mandatory military service, T.O.P was indicted and convicted for marijuana use, receiving a suspended prison sentence.

The group experienced a permanent lineup change in March 2019 following the "Burning Sun scandal". Seungri permanently retired from the entertainment industry and withdrew from BIGBANG after being indicted for multiple charges, including embezzlement and arranging prostitution; he was subsequently sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In May 2023, T.O.P officially announced his departure from the group to focus on his individual career. The remaining trio (G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung) later parted ways with YG Entertainment upon contract expirations, though they have maintained the group's legacy through independent activities and occasional reunions.
