The K-Pop movie with K-Pop hit songs.
In June 2025, Netflix released the K-Pop based fantasy movie KPop Demon Hunters. The movie, written by Maggie Kang and produced by Michelle Wong, tells the story of a novice K-Pop girl group Huntr/x who also happen to be Demon Hunters, singing to maintain a magic barrier protecting humanity from demons.
The movie would have been just another random attempt to capitalize on Korean heritage and the K-Pop idol industry if not for one simple fact: it worked. The movie itself was a major success from both a public and critics' perspective, with the soundtrack also rising to incredible prominence, topping charts not only in Korea (which is unusual for a Western-focused movie) but around the world.
The song "Golden" became the first movie soundtrack to ever reach a Perfect All-Kill on Korean streaming.
Performed by artists other than the actual voice actors, it features Ejae, a former SM Entertainment trainee turned composer/songwriter/soundtrack singer; Audrey Nuna, a published rapper; and Rei Ami, also a published rapper. All three are Korean-American.
Other songs by the trio featured in the movie also charted well. In fact, every song from the movie managed to chart on the main streaming services in Korea. It might not be your taste, but we cannot deny that reaching the chart-topping milestone of a Perfect All-Kill and charting on Billboard Global 200 is a great achievement for a K-Pop based movie.
