K-Pop Daisuki - Who are we?
We are a very small team of Korean Music enthusiasts from all over the world collecting statistics and information about Korean Music releases. If you have concerns on the source and method of data on this site, check our Transparency page (tl;dr all our data are verifiable and curated from OFFICIAL sites, as well open-source).
The site was created by Caio, a Computer Analyst from Brazil with over 25 years of experience on the job and a technical degree in Statistics and Probability. The database content, as well feature request and testing, is a collective work from multiple people, to name a few (battery levels indicate how active they are):
- A computer analyst from the Netherlands, who enjoys finding bugs on the site as well our greatest data contributor.
- An Jack-of-all-trades from Germany, who spends most of her free time hunting hard-to-find data.
- A rookie therapist from US who knows more than she thinks she knows, and cried with me to write the Rumors article.
- A Portuguese photographer, who is still trying to figure what NewJeans was doing in his backyard.
- A few Canadians who run KMQ, a Discord Korean Music Quiz bot that uses our database.
- The "Spotter of Pororos" and Award Data Hunter based on the US.
- A k-pop enthusiast from battered Ukraine.
- A nearly anonymous early contributor (from the US, maybe?), who added over 5000 videos to the database as "Past-time".
- A Youtuber from England, who not only helps with data but also single handedly input most Music Show Awards song names up to 2011.
- Two Koreans who needless to say helped us find obscure data in Korean and also tackle some larger translations Papago wasn't good enough for.
- And many, many more people who "only" contributed each with a few hundred data points, updates, testing and fact-checking
For a couple of years, the site was completely open for anyone to edit, but the number of incorrect information and content not in line with the guidelines that keeps things organized forced our the hand and now we ask people to at least introduce themselves and be somewhat available for early feedback on Discord to join the editor team. We are always open to more editors, since there are hundreds of less known artists missing from the database, as well as a wealth of incomplete data on the current ones.
The basic database is free to download (ask for the month's password in our discord or my mail below), and all calculations and mathematics that keep the cogs turning are transparent and available at this page.
Donators to my Buy Me A Coffe, which is there to cover the costs of the server, can have a unique password to download the database at any time, like KMQ does (the database download only updates twice a day though). However, if you have some cool idea that requires our constant feed and you can't spare the change, contact us!
