K-Pop Daisuki - Database Goals and rules

SITE GOAL

The goal of this site is to keep a database of Korean Artists. Aside from Music Videos, any form of officially curated content, such as Dance videos, Choreography, Acoustic or Studio versions are also included. Other metrics such as Music Show Awards, Sales, Streaming, Followers and so on are also part of the site. This site is not a launch index for unofficial channels, and as such only limited videos from unofficial channels are accepted, such as when an official version is missing.

USE your common sense when making edits, and in doubt ASK US.

We define a Korean Artist as one that is part Korean, or whose main promotion takes place in Korea.
ARTISTS

Any Korean based artists can be added to the database, but always with a focus on completing Music Video listings. Some artists are added to properly fill Streaming and Sales data as well, therefore you might find artists that have no Music Videos in the database. With that in mind, some content does not make sense in this site and will not be accepted, such as:

  1. "Fake" or fictional artists, like those that exist only in a drama or show, are not added even if successful outside of it. Virtual groups where the singers are known and credited are ok. Examples: Girls Next Door, Apoki.
  2. Temporary groups formed inside reality or music shows and contests are not allowed, otherwise we would quickly fill the database with artists that actually never existed (were fictional and only meant to be a temporary act during the show). There is one exception: The winner (or finalist if there is no winner) can be added if they release an official Music Video, like PRODUCE 101 or UNI.T.
  3. Seasonal sub-units that can be added to a main group without loss. For instance, NCT 2018 or NCT 2020 Music Videos should be added under NCT.
  4. Collaborations with Foreign Artists can be added but you won't be able to add the foreign artist as a member, In these cases, add the collaboration naming (artist + artist). Example: Wendy + John Legend. An alternative is to add the Music Video in the existing artist, and the foreign artist in brackets, like "Momoland (with CHROMANCE)";
  5. As stated above, the artist must be at least part Korean (if it is a group, it requires at least one Korean member), and must be promoted mainly in Korea
  NOT ALLOWED

Artist Naming and collaboration considerations:

  1. When adding a non-named collaboration, just put the name of the members in the name of the collaboration like a + b + c in both romanized and hangul fields.
  2. Collaborations between members of the same group should be added in the group, do not create a new collaboration.
  3. The Artistic Name is the name the artist promotes under, not their real name. Artists that use their real names as Artistic names should have the romanized version added as their Artistic Name, and their Korean name (in Hangul) in the proper field.
  4. The Foreign Name should not be left empty so that users in Korea can see it (some pages display only one). In doubt, just duplicate the romanized name for either Artist or Videos.
  5. If an Artist changes name, Move the old name to the "Previous Name" field and use the new name in Artistic Name. If the Previous Name is already in use, move the old name to the Alias. We need all names the artist actively promoted so linking them to their past awards can be done.
  6. Under Full Name, use the Romanized version. Add their foreign name in the Alias.
  7. Artists that are not Korean and therefore don't have a Hangul name should either have the Hangul name just duplicated from their Name, or use their native country name (like Japanese or Thai).
  8. Do not use a dash in the name. Instead, join the names so that there is no dash. This is a valid standard and helps with searching for the artist. For example, use "Hong Jinyoung" instead of "Hong Jin-Young".
  9. We only track Singers, not producers. Also, "featured" artists (sometimes added to the title of the song as "with artist") should not be added.
  10. The following fields are optional only because sometimes they are hard to find, but do find them unless you have sold your soul and still can't figure it out. Feel free to ask help from other contributors to find them: Debut date, Company (at least current), Birthdate for soloists, Melon code and Namu link
  11. The control checks under the artist should only be set if you are sure. For instance, "Company is checked" means you are sure the company is correct. EMPTY company fields mean either the information is not available, or the artist is self-produced

Fields and other information:

    Starting Date should consider any official activity from the artist before their official debut, such as pre-debut releases, OST participations and so on. Debut date should be reserved exclusively for the official debut release.

VIDEOS

When adding videos, please use the tags properly. They are important for organizing the videos.

For proper organization, Music Videos should be added in one of the following categories:

  • Main: The original / first video of a given music. If there are no proper Music Video, other formats are allowed as main version, such as Dance, Acoustic and such;
  • Duplicate: An exact copy of the main video, usually from a different channel;
  • Alternate: Another version of the music from the main video.

Only videos from Official Korean companies/channels should be posted, and only Music-Video oriented content, like Dance, Choreography or Studio/Acoustic content. Videos with multiple songs, intros or anything that is not a full song do not belong. The following are not allowed:

  1. Videos not from official channels, unless they are somehow relevant, like videos with large number of views (+1M), videos that have no official versions, or meaningful alternate videos.
  2. Part switch, random speed or any other joke format that interferes heavily with the choreography or song, even if from official accounts;
  3. "Unveil", "Teasers" or any other video that does not portray the whole music, including instrumental versions. For Japanese versions, where it is common to release a short version of the music/MV, it is subject to analysis;
  4. Fan made videos;
  5. Audio-only videos should be added as with the Audio-Video system, these include lyric and visualizer videos;
  6. Live performances of any kind (unless in closed studios with no audience / acoustic). If there is cheer or audience sounds during the music it is denied across the board too (if the sounds are not overlapping with the music, its ok). NOTICE that Accoustic videos are NOT considered an Live performance since its often done in a STUDIO. Some exceptions where the audio is crystal clear might be allowed, use your common sense. It is ok to have a small introduction (like the artist introducing themselves and/or the song they will sing) as long it is short
  7. Partial music, or multiple music videos, even if perfectly tied. Multiple music on the same video are also usually not accepted;
  8. Any fake or fictional videos (from dramas or shows), excluding the winner (or finalist if no winner is declared) from a contestant show; Contest videos might be accepted if from a solo artist, since it can be added under the solo artist and not a fictional group.
  NOT ALLOWED

Covers / Remakes:

  • The difference between a Cover and a Remake is that a Cover is not for monetary gain, just an artist singing. Remakes are full releases (usually will also be for sale and in streaming sites).
  • Remember to set the appropriate tags for Cover/Remake. Take special care to also check the Acoustic tag if the artist is singing live. For covers of foreign songs, also mark the language and "non-kpop" tags
  • For covers of Korean songs, please fill the Original Artist and Original Song if available;
  • For covers of non-Korean songs, you can either not add any information about the Original Artist, or put it in the name or alias (better) like "Song - Original Artist". All of this is optional.

Video Naming Convention:

  • Use the official western/romanized version. If none is provided, the best translation possible should be used;
  • Like in Artist names, for non-korean versions, use the "Foreign name" to put the original name (example, in Japanese). If the name is only in English, duplicate it in English.
  • Do not add artist names in the video name except if a collab or cover of a foreigner (even so, this is optional);
  • Non Korean spoken songs should be signaled with the language tags. Remixes or special case alternate/dance versions can also be signaled in tags;

AUDIO VIDEOS (a.k.a B-sides)

All of the above rules stand, the most important being that only from official channels are accepted. Other things to consider:

  • No duplicates of the song in regards to existing MVs (different versions are ok). An audio with better quality than the MV is allowed (for instance, the MV has a plot, pauses or noise) as long you link it from the MV;
  • No small intros or intermisso;
  • Lyric videos with static images or barely moving should be added as Audio Video.

Reporting errors or making inquiries about music videos can be done in the page with details of the video, using the button "inquiry". If you think the video should not be in the database, use "Request delete" instead, and write a small reason.

For longer inquiries or suggestions, use the contact link at the bottom or discord. It is not mandatory to be part of our discord to collaborate, but it is highly recommended since it allows near instant feedback (and obviously, answers for your questions). Mistakes from people who are not on discord are often less tolerated.

This page might have added conventions at any time as more people make suggestions, but it is unlikely any of the already existing rules will change, only appended.
